Holly Cottage in Bay Head
Mac and Jennifer base themselves in this charming cottage in Holly Street, Bay Head during the summer. Inside, the cottage is full of memories of the ocean, seaglass colors, shells and soft white walls. Comfy sofas and quaint seaside decor ensure comfort and tranquility.
The garden is planted with roses that flower all summer long. This is Jennifer’s favorite spot to drink tea and read newspapers with the girls each morning before the days portrait sessions take place. Friends drop by riding bicycle’s, to deliver breakfast sandwiches or croissants from the local bakery and to share a pot of tea or coffee.
Mac meets clients at the beach or at their own beach cottages at 7am to catch the glowing clear light each morning. Later, he’ll meet Jennifer and the girls for an afternoon at the beach or crabbing before joining his evening clients at 6pm on the beach for a golden sunset shoot. Mac prefers these quiet times at the shore for his portrait sessions. “It’s a lot easier on the kids when the sun is low in the sky, more flattering for everyone. No one has to squint into the light. It’s worth getting out of bed a little early or keeping the kids up later!”
Bay Head on the Jersey Shore is a charming seaside village where locals cycle on easy riding cruisers to the beach or to drinks and dinner. The streets off the main highway are quiet and tranquil where kids ride scooters and play ball in the street with the neighbours. Crabbing is a local pastime and surf casting is the order of the morning. Groups of yoga proponents gather after dawn to stretch on the peaceful sands, then later the familes arrive on their cycles towing kids and kayaks for the days fun in the sun.
The Bay Head yacht club is the social hub, its courts, marinas and dining facitilies resounding with the quiet pleasures of summer on court and under sail. What could be more relaxing than an iced tea on the verandah overlooking the bay or dinner with friends in the twilight as the lights come on across the water.
Bay Head Morning
A long weekend on Long Beach Island is a treat. Lobster and clams from the local clam shack, crabbing on the bay. Sunset strolls by Barnegat light. Mac and Jennifer rent a quaint cottage so Mac can meet local clients for Meet us at the Beach photo sessions. September is the best month to visit when the summer crowds have gone, the air is still warm but fresh and clear. We love the beach cottages that line the walk to the beach.
