Saturday August 12 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM Head to Harlem for a day of storytelling, live music and art-making activities at the Sweet Spot Pop and Shop at the Sugar Hill Greenmarket. Learn more about the Sugar Hill Children’s Museum of Art & Storytelling and their programs and enjoy an afternoon filled with the vibrance of Harlem, its art and culture.
Saturday August 12 10:00 AM – 4:30 PM Take wing at the Turtleback Zoo Butterfly Tent- Over 700 live butterflies as well as caterpillars and chrysalis types that go from eggs to butterflies. Kids can also paint at the zoo at a special Family Event at the Turtle Back Zoo Giraffe viewing station. The cost of the class includes all art supplies and admission for the child to the Zoo where they can enjoy all of the exhibits after class. They also get to take home their artwork.
Saturday August 12th 10:30 AM-3:00 PM Join Superstar of Science Debra Esposito of the Morristown Museum at Field Station Dinosaurs in Leonia for presentations on how animals from the depths of the ocean to the bright blue sky have adapted to survive
Saturday August 12 12:00 PM-4:00 PM Grab the family including the fur babies and head to Taphaus Hoboken for their Bark and Brunch benefitting the Liberty Humane Society. Enjoy brunch specials including unlimited mimosas and French toast!
Saturday August 12 12:00 PM – 1:00 PM Get your yoga flow on with Nikki Nice at the very top of Central Park. Enjoy a 45 minute yoga class with free childcare including activities and snacks for children 4-10 years of age
Saturday August 12 2:00 PM- 4:00 PM Paint Party at Beyond Today Early Education Center in Fairlawn . Little ones 2.5-6 will enjoy an afternoon of paint and play and snacks.
Saturday August 12 4:00 PM- 8:00 PM Join the Indian Independence Day Celebration at the Exchange Place Boardwalk- this is the largest Indian Independence Day fest in Jersey City featuring music, food and fun for the entire family
Saturday August 12 12:00 PM- 9:00 PM Groove at the Montclair Jazz Festival bring a blanket and stay all day- great music, delicious food at the largest one-day jazz festival in NJ! Headliners include A Christian McBride Situation, Dee Dee Bridgewater and Cyrus Chestnut with mistress of ceremonies S. Epatha Merkerson and WBGO Jazz 88.5 announcer Gary Walker.
Saturday and Sunday 11:30 PM-4:30 AM Stay up late! This is the best weekend for viewing the Perseid Meteor Shower before the full moon on the 18th. You should be seeing 80-120 meteors per hour- most of them happening after midnight. Light pollution will make the meteors harder to see but try Stevens or Liberty State Park to see at least some of these beautiful celestial happenings. Hint- don’t look straight up- watching at mid-sky will give you the most comet-viewings.
Sunday August 13 1:00 PM -4:00 PM Sail the Hudson River on a Princess and Super Hero Party Cruise enjoy clowns, magic tricks, face painting, balloon sculpting, dancing contest, pictures, and of course a meet and greet with the Princesses and Super Heroes. The Harbor Lights Yacht has 2 indoor floors and a live DJ playing your favoritedance tunes.
Sunday August 13 5:00 PM- 7:00 PM End the weekend with some live music and a sunset at Summerfest NJ in Liberty State Park with Latin music by big band La Charanga 76
Sunday August 13th 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM Feet won’t fail you if you head to the 36th Annual Battery Dance Festival opening in Battery Park- the festival continues for 4 days with more than 3o dance companies from around the world participating. FREE
