Even though it’s only the beginning of February, things are really starting to HEAT UP! We’ve got 14 amazing activities for you this weekend. Get your Dog on- either the Chinese Year of the Dog Celebrations or at the world-famous Westminster Dog Show. Take in a play or ballet, or try a Victorian tea. If that isn’t enough- shake off your Winter Blues at the Hoboken Family Alliance’s Cabin Fever event.

Saturday, February 10:00 AM- 12:00 PM (Jersey City) Create your own, unique, hand-made recycled art from used paper and other natural materials at Liberty State Park. Saturday, February 10:00 AM- 12:00 PM (Summit 30 minutes from Hoboken & JC) Have tea in the spirit of Matilda Feylinghuysen at the Frelinghuysen Arboretum in Summit. At this annual winter tea, learn about horses and the carriages that are on display. Enjoy a delicious brunch and an illustrated talk. Learn about all the different types of dogs at the 9th Annual American Kennel Club Meet the Breeds at the famous Westminster Dog Show. Stay for the agility trials and catch the breeds in action. Saturday, Feb 10, 2018 Two sessions: 12 noon – 1:30 pm and 2:00 pm – 3:30 pm Pre registration is strongly encouraged.(Short Hills 30 minutes from Hoboken & JC) Celebrate the Lunar New Year at the Hartshorn Arboretum/ Shake off the winter blues and help welcome the Lunar New year by following their Chinese Lion through the woods. Saturday, February 10th 2:00 PM-3:oo PM (South Orange 30 minutes from Hoboken & JC) The Stinky Cheese Man and Other Fairly Stupid Tales at the South Orange Performing Arts Center (SOPAC) retells–and wreaks havoc on–the stories we all thought we knew by heart. A hilarious refresher on classic fairy tale characters who keep dropping in and out of each other’s stories! Saturday, February 10th 3 sessions: 11:00 AM, 1:00 PM, 3:30 PM  (NYC) New York Theatre Ballet presents Mother GOOSE! at Florence Gould Hall. Mother GOOSE! is a one-hour performance for children ages three and up. The wit, wisdom, and whimsy of classic literary rhymes onstage, featuring a lively baker’s dozen of Mother Goose characters. The literally leap from the page to the stage to stir the imagination of the young and the young-of heart – just as they have for centuries! Tickets are $34 ($24 for children 12 and under)

Saturday & Sunday, Feb. 10 & 11 (Queens 45 minutes from Hoboken & JC) Lunar New Year at the Queens Zoo: The WCS’s (Wildlife Conservation Society) Queens Zoo and Prospect Park Zoo are celebrating the Year of the Dog with special activities to ring in the Lunar New Year. The Queens Zoo’s coyotes will be the featured canines for Lunar New Year event.  Activities include a self-guided, scavenger hunt, ribbon dancing, paper cutting and calligraphy workshops, story time, keeper chats, and other educational programming. Free with admission $8 for adults $5 for children

Sunday, February 11th at 2:00 PM  and 8:00 PM (Morristown 45 minutes from Hoboken & JC) Dinosaurs roam the Mayo Performing Arts Center stage! Explore scientific facts and explode myths about the dinosaur era in this prehistoric musical revue presented by Hudson Vagabond Puppets performed by enormous creatures up to 22 feet long! All attendees must have a ticket.

Sunday February 11th 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM (West Orange 30 minutes from Hoboken & JC) The Turtleback Zoo Explorers Program offers a drop off program for 4 & 5 year olds at The Education Center. Join then as they use movement, stories, games, and crafts for these interactive, science-based lessons to learn about the wonderful and fascinating world of animals. Supervised outings to specific areas of the Zoo that support the lesson are included as weather permits.  Each session features classes with a different theme, so you can attend one or all three! CLASSES: Each class offered within the same session covers the same content.Registration: $25 per child per class. Advanced registration and payment are required.

Sunday, February 11th 11:00 AM-12:00 PM (Hoboken) In celebration of Chinese New Year, Vickie Lee will read her story RUBY’S CHINESE NEW YEAR at Little City Books. Come make a paper lantern or a fan and learn about this colorful holiday. FREE Perfect for children 3-10 years of age.

Sunday, February 11th 10:00 AM- 2:00 PM  (Hoboken) The Hoboken Family Alliance (HFA) will host its annual Cabin Fever Festival at The Brandt School (215 9th St, Hoboken). This will be the sixteenth year that HFA has been organizing this event. Cabin Fever is an open house for local businesses catering to kids. Sample kids classes, activities, summer day camps. Enjoy live music and dance performances. While you check out the details and meet the instructors and camp counselors, the kids can cure their “cabin fever” with arts activities, face painting, balloons, and more. Admission is FREE for HFA members and $20 per family for all others.
