Things to DO

August is almost here so let’s squeeze loads of fun into this last July weekend!

Saturday and Sunday July 29 & 30 6:00 am to 8:00 pm Fall in love at first flight! The New Jersey Festival of Ballooning in Readington, NJ the largest summertime hot air balloon and music festival in North America.  With twice daily mass ascensions (6:30 am and 6:30 pm) of up to 100 special shape and sport hot air balloons, to headlining concerts, non-stop family entertainment, hundreds of crafters and vendors, great food, fireworks, a balloon glow, and more, the festival is jam-packed with stuff to do.

Saturday July 29 12:00 pm-2:00 pm (registration in advance required) Run, don’t walk to the Youth City Challenge in Liberty State Park. Children as young as 6 and up to 12 will have the opportunity to Conquer The Challenge. The course will consists of a 1 mile course with obstacles including 3ft. wall, cargo net, police car and taxi cab, tires, hurdles and more.

Saturday July 29 12:00 pm-2:00 pm Grab the family furbaby and head to the 2nd annual Dog Days of Summer Festival in Jersey Cityan afternoon of dog-centric vendors, exhibitors, and service providers including puppy fro-yo from Milk Sugar Love. Prizes will be raffled to benefit the fantastic See Spot Rescued dog rescue. There will be pups looking for their forever homes!

Saturday, July 29  11:00 am to 4:00 pm Hang out at the Magnolia Landing Summer Series will host its first-ever event in Journal Square near the new Journal Squared  The outdoor gathering will feature food and drink, local crafts and live music in the plaza located adjacent to rental development Journal Squared. The Magnolia Landing Summer Series is comprised of more than 20 local vendors and artisans and features live music, local crafts and food by Hanna’s Meatballs, Yum Shack, O’LaLa Empanadas, Gypsy Pops, Gusti Di Sicilia and Raw Roots Café.

Saturday, July 29  10:00 am to 12:00 pm Walk Liberty State Park on a guided Summer shorebird walk and discover the wealth of birds that make this coast of NJ their home (FREE registration required call (201) 915-3400, ext. 202 or email them at lspnaturecenter@dep.nj.gov ) Program will begin at the Park Office on Morris Pesin Drive.

Saturday July 29 10:00 am-to 1:00 pm Head to the Rock- Rockefeller Center, that is, for Kids Rock a day of free family fun including games, crafts, sweet treats, and more . Children of all ages are welcome to enjoy a variety of activities ranging from face painting, giant foosball and Connect 4® games, a popsicle stand, mini LEGO® build stations, a photo booth, and live music.

Saturday, July 29, 10:30 am–5:00 pm Sunday, July 30, 12–7:30 pm Jump on in! Double Dutch returns to Lincoln Center After a 30+ year hiatus, Double Dutch returns to the Lincoln Center campus! The historic two-day event celebrates the sport, the talent, artistry and athleticism of its participants, and its rich history in New York City and at Lincoln Center with demonstrations, jump-ins, panel discussions, a film screening and exhibition, and the Double Dutch Summer Classic National Competition.
